On October 14, a delegation consisting of students and teachers of the 8th International Training Course on UNESCO Global Geoparks Management and Development visited Furong Town in Yongshun County, “Golden Nail” in Guzhang County, and Aizhai Bridge in Jishou City.
A brief history of the Earth’s development over the past 4.6 billion years and major geological events of Xiangxi are depicted on the walls of the Science Popularization Square outside the Xiangxi UNESCO Global Geopark Museum. Over 300 types of specimens of rock minerals, ancient organisms, and flora and fauna are exhibited in the museum.
After visiting 8 exhibition halls, the delegation gained a comprehensive understanding of the unique geological relics, diverse biological ecology, splendid ethnic minority culture, and the development and construction of the Xiangxi UNESCO Global Geopark and its community.
In the Furong Town Scenic Area, they were deeply attracted by the vigorous and passionate Maogusi dance. Then with the rich fragrance of osmanthus flowers filling the air along the way, they came to Tongzhu Garden, strolled through Tuwang Bridge and Furong Town Waterfall, and finally arrived at the “Golden Nail” in Guzhang County by boat at Wangcun Pier. They gently touched the stone wall and carefully examined the global Cambrian standard stratotype section.
In Shibadong Village, they successively visited the Targeted Poverty Alleviation Theme Exhibition Hall and Lizi Village, and learned that the village has developed Red, green, and antique tourism to keep sustainable development.
Standing on the glass walkway of Aizhai Bridge, they looked down at the beautiful scenery of the valley. They visited the distillery, printing and dyeing workshop, oil pressing workshop, tofu workshop, weaving workshop, and Miao embroidery workshop in Dehang Miao Village. The traditional bean grinding and oil pressing skills attracted several members of the delegation to experience them.
At night, they watched the performance of “Dehang Fantasyland” to immerse themselves in the Miao culture and the patriotism of Xiangxi people.
“This is my first time visiting Xiangxi. The magnificent scenery, ancient architecture, and fascinating ethnic culture here have all mesmerized me,” said Purevsuren Solongo from Mongolia.
